Equipment

  • Oven
  • Pot

Ingredients

  • 1 pound dried spaghetti
  • 32 fully cooked beef meatballs
  • 6 cups hearty marinara sauce about 2 jars
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  • Start your journey by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). This will ensure that your dish cooks evenly and achieves that perfect golden-brown top.

Step 2: Cook the Spaghetti

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add your dried spaghetti, cooking it until it’s al dente. Usually, that’s about 8-10 minutes. Once done, drain the spaghetti and return it to the pot.

Step 3: Mix in the Sauce

  • Add the marinara sauce to the cooked spaghetti. Stir in half of the shredded mozzarella cheese, the sea salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. This melds the flavors beautifully and coats the spaghetti thoroughly.

Step 4: Prepare the Baking Dish

  • Lightly grease a large baking dish with olive oil. This prevents the pasta from sticking and helps with easy cleanup.

Step 5: Layer the Meatballs

  • Spread half of the spaghetti mixture into the baking dish. Then, nestle your thawed meatballs on top. Once that’s done, pour the remaining spaghetti mixture over the meatballs, covering them completely.

Step 6: Top with Cheese

  • Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella on top of the casserole. Then finish it off with the grated Parmesan cheese. This will give you that enticing golden crust.

Step 7: Bake to Perfection

  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 25 minutes. After that, uncover and bake for an additional 15 minutes. This will allow everything to meld together while giving you the crusty cheese topping to enjoy.

Step 8: Serve and Enjoy!

  • Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes before digging in. Serve with garlic bread and a simple salad, and watch your family gather around the table, smiles all around.

Notes

  • Make it Ahead: Assemble the dish a day in advance, store it in the fridge, and bake when needed.
  • Try Different Meats: If you want to mix things up, use turkey or chicken meatballs for a lighter option.
  • Add Veggies: Sneak in some spinach or chopped bell peppers for extra nutrition. They blend well with the other flavors.
  • Use Quality Sauce: A homemade marinara elevates the dish. Choose a jarred sauce that you love for convenience.
  • Experiment with Cheeses: Feel free to mix in provolone or goat cheese for different flavor dimensions.
