Equipment

  • 9-inch pie dish
  • Large bowl

Ingredients

  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup preferably Grade A
  • ½ cup granulated white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt
  • 4 large eggs lightly beaten
  • ½ cup unsalted butter melted and cooled
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ package of pre-made pie crusts
  • 2 tablespoons whole milk
  • ½ cup coarsely chopped pecans
  • 1 ½ cups whole pecan halves

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Pie Crust

  • Roll out your pre-made pie crust and fit it into a 9-inch pie dish. Set it in the fridge to chill while you prep the filling.

Step 2: Mix Dry Ingredients

  • In a large bowl, combine the brown sugar, granulated white sugar, flour, and sea salt. Whisk until thoroughly mixed.

Step 3: Add Wet Ingredients

  • To the same bowl, add the lightly beaten eggs, melted butter, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and whole milk. Whisk the mixture until fully combined and smooth.

Step 4: Add Pecans

  • Fold in the coarsely chopped pecans. This ensures that the filling has a consistent crunch in every bite.

Step 5: Pour Filling into Crust

  • Take your chilled pie crust from the fridge and pour the pecan mixture into it.

Step 6: Arrange Pecan Halves

  • Carefully arrange the whole pecan halves on top of the filling in a decorative pattern.

Step 7: Bake the Pie

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the pie for about 50-60 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust is golden brown.

Step 8: Cool and Serve

  • Let the pie cool completely before serving. This helps the filling to set properly, making it easier to slice.

Notes

  • Use Fresh Pecans: Stale nuts can ruin the texture and taste.
  • Quality Maple Syrup: Opt for Grade A maple syrup for the best flavor.
  • Pie Shield: Use a pie shield or foil around the crust edges to prevent over-browning.
  • Cool Completely: Don’t rush serving; the filling needs time to firm up.
  • Storage: Keep leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
