Raising Cane’s Coleslaw Recipe

Raising Cane’s Coleslaw Recipe

Sarah Brown
Ah, the irresistible charm of coleslaw! It’s one of those classic side dishes that can either steal the show or play a supportive role. My love affair with coleslaw began when I first tasted the version served at Raising Cane’s.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • food processor

Ingredients

  • 1/2 head of crisp green cabbage thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1/2 carrot finely grated
  • 1/2 tsp celery seeds
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp creamy mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard with a hint of spice
  • 1 tbsp distilled white vinegar
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Cabbage

  • Start by cutting your cabbage. You’ll want to cut it in half to make it manageable. Remove the core, then slice each half thinly. Aim for shreds that are no larger than about half an inch. You want them to be crisp and easy to chew.

Step 2: Grate the Carrot

  • Next, grab your carrot. Use a box grater or a food processor to finely grate it. The smaller the pieces, the better it will mix in. The vibrant orange will make your slaw visually appealing.

Step 3: Whisk the Dressing

  • In a mixing bowl, combine your mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, sugar, lemon juice, and vinegar. Whisk it together until it’s nice and smooth. This will be the soul of your coleslaw, so you want it well mixed.

Step 4: Add Celery Seeds

  • Once the dressing is ready, add in the celery seeds. Give it a good stir. They add a subtle flavor that creates complexity without stealing the show.

Step 5: Mix the Vegetables

  • In a large bowl, toss in your cabbage and grated carrot. Pour the dressing over the top. With your hands or a spatula, mix everything together gently. You want each piece coated in that creamy goodness.

Step 6: Season

  • Finally, sprinkle salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Always taste as you go! Adjust the seasoning to your preference.

Step 7: Chill

  • For best results, cover your bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes. This allows all the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • Use fresh ingredients: Fresh veggies make a world of difference.
  • Chill before serving: This enhances the flavors and makes the slaw refreshing.
  • Experiment with texture: Use a mix of red and green cabbage for color and crunch.
  • Adjust the sweetness: If you love it sweet, add a little more sugar.
  • Add a crunch: For extra texture, toss in some sunflower seeds or chopped nuts just before serving.
